the novelty of the Sabbath

Recently I’ve been reading, and enjoying thoroughly, Marva Dawn’s book Keeping the Sabbath Wholly: Ceasing, Resting, Embracing, Feasting . What baffles me is how I was able to glibly ignore the command to keep the Sabbath for the first 10 years of my Christian walk.

The incarnation of Jesus Christ compels us to practice the virtue of presence. Just as Christ is present with us in our sufferings, so must we be present with those who are suffering even in the face of death. We can look to the film The Tears of the Sun for an example of what this can look like.
