MLK Day: “why america may go to hell”

January 19th, 2009 by isaac · 2 Comments

Today is a day when our nation is called to remember Martin Luther King, Jr. Well, here’s a bit of MLK history that is conveniently forgotten. On Thursday, April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. had retreated to room 306 of the Lorraine Motel, worrying about a sanitation strike in Memphis and working on his sermon for Sunday. After he was assasinated, they found his notes for the sermon that he never had a chance to preach. Here’s the title:

“Why America May Go to Hell”

Does anyone have the actual text to “Why America may go to Hell”?

No, sorry, Anon, there wasn’t a text to MLK’s proposed final sermon. From the road, he called the church secretary with the sermon title, but that’s all we have.
