Well, once a week is proving too little to get my fix of photography, so I’ve taken the plunge and set up a photo blog. My goal is to have a new image up daily (during the week anyhow), but we’ll just have to see how well I’m able to stick to it . Anyhow, take a look around.

In other photo-related news, I finally got the webcam back up at work. Things slowed down for a few days at work, so I tinkered around and set up a brand-spankin-new usb camera that monitors the office for any signs of unusual activity. Check it out via the webcam page.

I wanted to take a picture that captures some of my ambivalence about the topic. On the one hand, my Christian identity far transcends my national identity, but on the other hand I appreciate the security, freedoms, and culture (some of it, anyways) of the U.S. I found the image I was looking for in this memorial that was down on West Beach on Memorial Day. Crosses had been set up to honor the American soldiers who had died in Iraq, but the other costs of the war, specifically money and the many Iraqi deaths, were also acknowledged.

Finally, driving home from class last night (coming from Pasadena at about 11pm) I realized there was one thing I definitely savored: coming home, especially on days when I have class. So, I took a shot of our house when I got home. I don’t think the picture adequately captures it, but there is something wonderful about having the light left on for me and knowing family is waiting inside.

After taking a good hundred pictures that were blah I came up with a couple I liked. The inspiration for this one came from one of student photos I saw in the hallway here at Brooks. I did end up looking a little surlier than I intended… I guess I was concentrating too hard on taking the photo to smile

I like this one because I caught the grain of the wood and Toby just as he’s starting to nod off. Of course, he wasn’t really nodding off, I actually coaxed him into feeling tired by rubbing his belly and then running over to take the picture

It gave me lots of chances to get strange looks from people as I snapped pictures of them and their cars as we drove by. But all the shots of the world outside the car came out rather uninteresting, so I tried takings shots of the inside of the car. I liked this one because it captured the “new image” of the American family: everyone piled in the car, but going nowhere in particular.
